SUNDRY

Places We Love: Mama Shelter

#TRAVELHanna Lieberman

We’re excited to feature one of our favorite spots in LA, owned by longtime Sundry friends Benjamin and Jeremie Trigano. Deemed “One of the Best Hotels in the World” by Travel + Leisure, Mama Shelter is turning the Hollywood hotel scene upside down. Situated in a bustling urban location reasonably priced rooms, the boutique hotel caters to a diverse mix of shelter-seekers. But that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in style or quality.

Benjamin, who also owns M+B Art Gallery in West Hollywood, collected works from several local artists to create a fun and whimsical atmosphere throughout the hotel. He then commissioned Thierry Gaugain to design the Hollywood branch of the hotel with quirky touches and eye-catching artistic elements. But not to fear, as the ever-eclectic space does not scrimp on comfort. Instead, the two sensibilities are blended seamlessly - the rooms boast ultra soft white linens against bright graphic textiles. You might find a Muppet mask doubling as a lampshade cover or Keith Richard’s autobiography sitting on the nightstand beside the Bible (in case music is your religion).

Mama Shelter also feeds their guests well – Chef Giselle Wellman (who is currently on the show Top Chef) serves up a market-based menu at Mama’s all-day restaurant. Long communal tables and an open kitchen make guests feel right at home. We love stopping in for a quick drink (order the Mommy Dearest!) or settling in for a long brunch on a lazy Sunday.
